Tallest Tower in Qatar

In November 2012, Qatari Diar announced it was accepting bids for the construction of what it announced would make the world’s tallest tower in Qatar, the 112-storey Doha Convention Center and Tower – for which plans had been initially held off due to concerns over the tallest tower disrupting airplane traffic at the Doha international Airport.

According to Business week, however, the 936,000-square-foot tower, stading at 1,808 feet in height, will rank as the 8th  tallest tower in Qatar and the world, preceded by the China 117 Tower (1870 feet), the Makkah clock Royal Tower (1893 feet), the Chicago Spire (2000 feet), the Russia Tower (2009 feet), Dubai’s pentominium (2028 feet), the Burj Dubai (2600 feet-plus), and Dubai Nakheel tallest tower (3281 feet-plus).

Still, the Doha Convention Center and Tower will rank ahead of the New York World Trade Center One (1776 feet), Dubai’s Burj Al Alam (1674 feet), South Korea’s Bussan Lotte Tower (1674 feet), Hong Kong’s International Commerce Center (1588 feet), Doha’s Dubai Towers (1434 feet), and Chicago’s Trump International Hotel and Tower (1362 feet), among others.

The Doha Convention Center and Tower will lead the State of Qatar’s investments into several governmental real estate and infrastructure and mega-projects, as well as supertall structures and skyscrapers. As such, several monumental projects have made the list of Qatar’s tallest buildings. According to worldwide building and construction data provider Emporis.com, they include the Aspire tower (300 meters) – which cost $ 175,000,000 to build –  the World Trade Center Doha Tower  (241 meters), the Burj Qatar (238 meters) – which cost $ 125,000,000  to build – and the Qatar telecom headquarters (158 meters), among others.

The tallest tower in Qatar and buildings are located, in majority, in the West Bay and The Pearl areas – where Qatar Coral has recently launched its VB22 and VB23 Towers, which encompass elegant and luxury residential units, penthouses and chalets, offering panoramic views of Qatar’s Viva Bahriya. In fact, a recent report for Q4 2013 by real estate portal Propertyfinder.qa – which compiled trends in residential activity in Qatar based on the behavior of the portal user – showed that The Pearl and West Bay “remained top communities to buy property based on their range of lifestyle options from high-rise apartments to luxurious waterside villas.”

With the slew of the tallest tower in Qatar under construction, and the likes of VB22 and VB23 complementing the scenery, the West Bay and The Pearl are set to anchor the next direction of Qatar’s real estate market.
